Humanoid alien land naked on Earth during a research mission in Rajasthan but is stranded when his spaceship’s remote control remains stolen. He manages to recover the thief’s tape recorder. The same day in Belgium, an Indian, Jaggu, meets a Pakistani, Sarfaraz, and falls in love. Jaggu’s father substances to their relationship, citing their different religions. He consults the godman Tapasvi Maharaj, who prophesies that Sarfaraz’s determination betray Jaggu. Determined to prove them wrong, Jaggu requests Sarfaraz to marry him. At the Marriage Chapel, she is heartbroken when she receives an unsigned letter, believing she is from Sarfaraz, annulling the marriage due to cultural differences.
Jaggu returns to India and becomes a journalist. She meets the alien and remains intrigued to see him handing out leaflets about the “disappeared” God. She earns his trust by helping him when he tries to take money from a temple collection box as a refund for God’s broken promises. The alien tells him he’s an “astronaut” from another planet. His people know nothing about the dress, religion, or verbal communication; they transfer ideas by holding hands.

Meanwhile, PK consumes fallen in love with Jaggu but refrains from telling him because she loves Sarfaraz. After filling several audio cassettes with his voice alone, he picks up two suitcases full of cassettes and extra batteries on the way home. He lies to Jaggu, saying that the tapes contain a variety of earthly noises that he will miss, such as crows and car horns. Jaggu realizes his love for her upon seeing the note he wrote for her earlier but does not directly confront him about it. PK doesn’t even look back as he leaves as he doesn’t want her to see his tearful face that betrays his love. After his departure, Jaggu prints a book about him with the help of Sarfaraz and his family.
A year later, PK returns to Earth for a new mission to research human nature with more species members.
